History

The Mission Centre in the Roma Community in Jarovnice was established in response to the long-term needs of the local community. Jarovnice is home to one of the largest Roma settlements in Slovakia, where many people face poverty, social exclusion, and a lack of basic living conditions.

The project was founded with the aim of providing practical assistance, educational opportunities, and spiritual support directly where they are needed most. Through its activities, the Centre seeks to improve quality of life, promote social inclusion, and create opportunities for personal growth and community development.

The Mission Centre serves as a place of encounter, support, and hope, helping children, young people, families, and elderly residents build a better future while preserving their dignity and strengthening their sense of belonging within the community.

Overview

The Mission Centre is a place where service, solidarity, and acceptance come together. It provides not only practical assistance but also opportunities for education, personal development, and spiritual growth.

Its mission is to empower the local community to gradually build a stronger foundation for the future, develop individual talents and abilities, and discover new opportunities for a better quality of life.

Through its activities, the Centre encourages self-reliance, responsibility, and active participation in community life, while fostering an environment of mutual respect, support, and hope.

Why We’re There

Our mission is to stand alongside the people of Jarovnice and support them in their growth, both in everyday life and in their faith.

At the Mission Centre, we provide:

  • Basic humanitarian assistance and support for families in need;
  • Educational activities for children and young people, including tutoring, after-school clubs, and leisure-time programmes;
  • Spiritual and pastoral care, including Holy Masses, catechesis, prayer meetings, and personal accompaniment;
  • Social counselling and assistance in addressing various life challenges and difficult situations;
  • Community projects that strengthen cooperation, solidarity, and a sense of belonging within the settlement.

The Mission Centre is a place where doors are open to children, young people, and adults alike, enabling them to grow in education, faith, and everyday life while building a stronger future for themselves and their community.

What We Do

The Centre operates directly within the Roma settlement in Jarovnice and is managed by people who work closely with the local community on a daily basis. Its activities are supported by volunteers, church institutions, and donors whose generosity makes it possible to provide practical assistance where it is needed most.

The Mission Centre in Jarovnice serves as a bridge between two worlds. It brings hope, opportunities, and support to people living in the settlement, while also fostering mutual understanding, dialogue, and respect between different communities. Through its work, it helps build stronger connections and creates pathways toward a more inclusive and cohesive society.
