History

Since January 2020, we have been operating a small general practitioner’s clinic in the Albanian city of Fier. Alongside healthcare services, we have also established a small community centre for people in need.

This project was created through the cooperation of the Congregation of the Daughters of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Elizabeth University of Health and Social Work, at the initiative of the local bishop.

Overview

The project provides tangible assistance and hope to many families in the region. It has received support on several occasions from the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Albania, the Franciscan brothers of Franz Hilf Vienna, and numerous individual donors.

Why We’re There

The clinic provides healthcare to the poorest residents, not only at the facility itself but also through home visits to patients, as many of them are unable to come for medical examinations.

At the end of 2020, the sisters also established a Community Centre focused on supporting the development of children and young people from poor families. We offered courses in English, sewing, cooking, gardening, and organised leisure activities and games with children.

We also held lectures and workshops on various topics related to everyday life. The Community Centre operated for four years; its activities are currently suspended.
