The St. Kizito Vocational Training Centre began its operations in 2017. Prior to that, from 2006 to 2016, the facility served as a rehabilitation centre for street children. In 2016, it was transformed into a vocational training institution for young people, primarily from disadvantaged social backgrounds.
At the beginning, the centre offered vocational courses in hairdressing, tailoring, masonry, and carpentry. Over time, its activities expanded significantly, and it introduced a comprehensive Cosmetology programme, which continues to provide a three-year professional education in hairdressing, barbering, beauty therapy, make-up artistry, and massage therapy.
The centre also established a Fashion and Design programme, where young people receive training in fashion, tailoring, and clothing design.
In 2020, a Basic Computer Skills Course was added to the curriculum and has since become one of the most popular programmes offered by the centre.
The institution employs six instructors, and since its establishment it has trained hundreds of students.
The centre also cooperates with St. Philip Neri School in Joska, supporting the education and preparation of young people for an independent and economically self-sufficient life.
The St. Kizito Vocational Training Centre is a vocational education institution located in Utawala, on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. The centre was officially opened in January 2017 and has a capacity of more than 100 students.
We primarily provide vocational education to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who, after completing secondary school (and in some cases primary school), were unable to continue to university and wish to learn a trade. Our focus is mainly on students from public schools who either did not qualify for university admission or lack the financial resources to pursue higher education, but who are motivated to continue their education and acquire practical skills.
St. Kizito provides students with comprehensive training in a variety of skills and helps them develop the knowledge and character needed to face the challenges of a dynamic society. The centre is officially registered with TVET, and students receive fully accredited certificates upon successful completion of their courses.
The centre currently offers the following programmes:
Cosmetology (Hairdressing, Barbering, Beauty Therapy, Make-up Artistry, and Massage Therapy)
Fashion and Design (Tailoring and Fashion Design)
Information Technology / Computer Courses
Each programme consists of three levels (Grade 3, Grade 2, and Grade 1), with each level lasting approximately eight months. At the end of every level, students complete both theoretical and practical examinations. Upon successful completion, they receive a certificate and may decide whether to continue to the next level.
The centre has a capacity of 100 students.
